Sharing Stremio Across Devices
Can I share my Stremio with my family? Short answer: yes, on all your devices, and with your partner, kids, or anyone else you want. But there's one thing you need to know first, especially if you're using RealDebrid. Otherwise RD will flag the pattern, send you a warning, and if it keeps happening, ban your account.
Here's what's going on, and three practical fixes.
Why does RealDebrid care about multiple devices?
When you play a 2-hour movie, your device doesn't download the whole thing at once. It makes lots of small requests to the debrid provider, one chunk at a time, over the 2 hours. As long as those requests all come from the same IP address, you're fine.
But:
- You switch on a VPN mid-stream. IP changes. Flag.
- Your phone roams between WiFi and cellular. IP changes. Flag.
- You set up RealDebrid at Grandma's house so she can watch. Different IP. Flag.
- Your family shares the account across devices. Multiple IPs at once. Big flag.
RealDebrid's automated systems watch for this pattern. Too many IPs in a short window looks (to them) like someone selling their account. The first time you trip the pattern, you'll see a warning in your RD panel. If the behaviour continues, the account gets banned.
This is specifically a RealDebrid thing. TorBox doesn't impose a multi-IP restriction at all, and Usenet doesn't have the concept. Other debrids like AllDebrid and Premiumize have their own rules, but nothing as strict as RD.
If you're using RealDebrid, here's how to keep your setup working.
Fix 1: Proxy streaming (keep your existing RealDebrid)
Instead of your devices talking to RealDebrid directly, they all talk to a proxy server first, and the proxy talks to RD. From RD's perspective, they only ever see one IP (the proxy's), no matter how many of your devices are actually watching. Problem solved.
The easy way: get an addon with proxy streaming bundled in. One subscription covers the addon AND the proxy, $1 for 7 days, $9 per month after:
- AIOStreams with 4K StremThru: our default AIOStreams bundle, proxy powered by StremThru.
- AIOStreams with 4K MediaFlow Proxy: same addon, MediaFlow Proxy instead.
- AIOStreams with built-in proxy (and NzbDAV): uses AIOStreams's built-in proxy, no separate proxy layer. Also bundles NzbDAV for Usenet.
- Comet (with 4K proxystreaming): Comet with its own internal proxy, works with RealDebrid, AllDebrid, or Premiumize.
- MediaFusion (with 4K MediaFlow Proxy): MediaFusion bundled with MediaFlow Proxy.
Running an addon DIY and just need the proxy piece? Both proxies are also available standalone:
- MediaFlow Proxy standalone: plug into any supported addon.
- StremThru standalone: sits between Stremio and your addon stack.
Bandwidth note: each bundled proxy gives enough headroom for one good 4K stream, or several HD streams concurrently. For bigger families or multi-4K households, add a Booster Pack.
One trap to avoid: don't mix proxy-enabled addons with non-proxy addons on the same RD account. Otherwise RD sees both the proxy IP AND your home IP, which defeats the whole thing. Either all-in on proxy, or no proxy.
Fix 2: Switch to (or add) TorBox
TorBox is a newer alternative to RealDebrid with no multi-IP restriction at all. You can use it on your phone, your TV, your laptop, your partner's tablet, and Grandma's Chromebook, all at once, no warnings.
TorBox comes bundled with all our main addons:
- AIOStreams with TorBox Essential
- Comet with TorBox (pick TorBox instead of proxy when configuring)
- MediaFusion with TorBox
All $1 for 7 days, $9 per month after.
Fix 3: Go Usenet
Usenet doesn't have the multi-IP problem at all (covered in providers and bundles). Via our AIOStreams with NzbDAV bundle, it's as simple as debrid: one subscription covers the Usenet provider, indexer, addon, and built-in proxy layer.
Same bandwidth rules as proxy streaming: one good 4K stream or several HD at once, with Booster Packs available if you need more.
What if I'm already banned?
Contact RealDebrid support directly. They do sometimes reinstate accounts, particularly for first-time offenders. Explain the situation (shared it with family, didn't realise the multi-IP policy) and ask nicely. No guarantees.
Once restored, set up one of the three fixes above before it happens again.
Am I already covered?
If you picked any of our bundled products, probably yes. TorBox-bundled products have no multi-IP restriction at all, and the proxy-bundled products solve the problem for RealDebrid users. The multi-device problem is handled either way.
What's next
If you're getting the basics working but want Stremio to look and feel nicer, move on to stremio extras for better posters, subtitles, catalog tools, and how to make Stremio kid-safe.
