Migrating between ElfHosted datacenters

ElfHosted runs datacenters in Europe, North America and Australia. If your apps feel slow, moving them closer to you can help. You can do it yourself, from the Datacenter page in your account.

The datacenters

The Datacenter page always shows the current list, and which ones are open to moves right now.

What you need to know

1. Your apps restart from your latest backup. Apps are backed up offsite automatically every 24 hours. Anything you changed since the last backup is lost unless you run a backup yourself first (see below).
2. Your addresses change. Your apps get the new datacenter's domain ending, e.g. https://batman.elfhosted.com becomes https://batman.elfhosted.cc. Update anywhere you've saved your app URLs (Stremio, other devices, bookmarks).
3. Expect about 10 to 15 minutes of downtime, depending on how much data is restored.
4. Resources can differ per region. Our hosting costs vary per region, so to keep prices the same, resources may differ (for example, the US has lower CPU limits but more bandwidth).
5. Backups don't capture every third-party, account-side setting. For AIOStreams, the Stremio addon configuration is represented by the install URL generated by the AIOStreams configure page. Save or reinstall the current manifest URL after moving.

Where to find it

Open My Account on the store and click Datacenter, near the bottom of the menu. The direct link is store.elfhosted.com/my-account/datacenter/.

The top of the page shows where your apps are currently running, which datacenter is closest to you, and your best download speed once you've run a test.

Pick a datacenter

Under All datacenters, click Test all & recommend fastest. It runs a download test against each datacenter in turn and picks the fastest for you. You can also test a single datacenter with its own Test button. The table shows each datacenter's jitter and download speed.

Move your apps

1. Back up first, in your ElfBot dashboard:
   • If you've made changes in the last 24 hours that you want to keep, run Global Commands, then Backup Offsite
   • If you've ever set environment variables, run Global Commands, then Environment Variables, then Export All Environment Variables
2. In the Move to a different datacenter box, tick both checkboxes to confirm you've done these. Each links to your ElfBot
3. Choose the Target datacenter. The recommended one is already selected. Datacenters that can't take moves right now aren't offered
4. Click Move my apps, and confirm when your browser asks

You'll see a notice that your apps are moving. They're turned off in the old datacenter and recreated in the new one, restored from your latest backup.

After the move

1. Your apps run from the new datacenter, with its domain ending
2. If you exported environment variables, import them in ElfBot
3. If you use custom domain names, update your CNAMEs to point to the new domain ending
4. Update any saved app URLs, and for AIOStreams, save or reinstall your manifest URL

If you had an old paid Datacenter Migration subscription, it's cancelled automatically.

FAQ

Can I move back?

Yes, at any time, from the same page. For 7 days after a move, your apps' exact state is kept in the old datacenter, so moving back within that window restores it as it was. After 7 days, moving back is a fresh backup and restore, like any other move.

Do I need to buy anything to move?

No. Moving is self-service, from the Datacenter page.
