Stremio Extras
Stremio out of the box works. But there's a catalog of addons that make it genuinely better, and most users never discover them. This page is the tour of what's in the fridge.
All of it is optional. Skip whichever sections don't apply to you. Full catalog is at stremio-addons-guide.elfhosted.com if you want to browse everything we host.
Better posters and metadata: AIOMetadata
The default Stremio posters and metadata are fine. AIOMetadata replaces them with high-res artwork, richer descriptions, and cleaner catalog layouts. It's not a streaming addon, it's a "look and feel" addon. Stremio looks twice as good after five minutes of setup.
Try it:
- Public instance: aiometadata.elfhosted.com.
- Private instance: AIOMetadata bundle with pre-warmed cache and higher API quotas. $1 for 7 days, $9 per month after.
Watch history that follows you across devices: Trakt
Stremio on your phone doesn't know you watched the first three episodes on your TV last night. Trakt does. Link your Stremio to a Trakt account (built into Stremio, no addon needed) and your progress syncs everywhere. Takes about 2 minutes.
For more advanced Trakt use (Trakt-driven catalogs, continue-watching lists, recommendations), we host MyTrakt.
Find what to watch next
Three addons that help with the "what should I watch?" question:
- Watchly generates personalised recommendations based on your watch history. Like a Netflix "because you watched X" lane, but for Stremio.
- TMDB surfaces TMDB's curated catalogs (popular, trending, upcoming) directly in Stremio.
- TMDB Discover+ goes deeper: genre deep-dives, weekly popular lists, release calendars.
All three can run side-by-side, they don't conflict.
Better subtitles
Finding subtitles for older, foreign, or niche content is a pain. Two addons help:
- Submaker uses AI to generate subtitles from the audio on the fly, when OpenSubtitles has nothing. Not always perfect, but often a lifesaver.
- Toast Translator takes existing subtitles and translates them to your language. Handy if you speak a less-supported language, or if your kids need dubs or subs in a specific language.
Don't miss new releases: ItsOut
ItsOut lets you subscribe to specific shows or films. When a new episode or release drops, Stremio shows you a notification. Useful if you've been waiting forever for season 4 of something.
Manage multiple profiles and back up your setup: AIOManager
AIOManager handles multiple Stremio identities in one place (useful if you want separate profiles for you, your partner, and the kids), backs up your addon configurations so you can restore them later, and tracks viewing history privately if you'd rather not use Trakt.
Try it:
- Public instance: aiomanager.elfhosted.com.
- Private instance: AIOManager bundle. $1 for 7 days, $9 per month after.
Ratings at a glance, plus trailers
- Rating Aggregator pulls ratings from multiple sources (IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Trakt, etc.) into one combined score. Stops you bouncing between sites to check if a movie is worth 2 hours.
- Streailer adds trailer playback inside Stremio. Small thing, big difference before committing to a movie.
Specialised content
Beyond mainstream movies and TV, we host some niche addons:
- Frenchio for French-language content.
- YouTubio for YouTube content inside Stremio.
- Playlistio for custom playlist management.
Plus more at our full catalog.
How do I make Stremio kid-safe?
Stremio doesn't ship with parental controls, but you can add them yourself using two of the addons above: AIOMetadata (for age ratings in the catalog) and AIOStreams (to filter streams by rating).
The rough setup:
- Install AIOMetadata and configure it to include MPAA / age-rating metadata.
- Install AIOStreams on your kids' Stremio account (a separate one from yours, linked via AIOManager for easier management).
- In AIOStreams, configure the Stream Expression Language (SEL) filter to exclude streams above a certain age rating.
Result: your kids' Stremio won't show them stuff you don't want them to see.
"Just give me everything": the Stremio Addons Bundle
If you like the sound of all of this and don't want to pick addons individually, we have a bundle: every Stremio addon we host, in one subscription, $29 per month. Works out roughly half the cost of buying each separately, with bundled proxy streaming thrown in.
Stremio Addons Bundle: $1 for 7 days, $29 per month after.
What's next
The next page, when things break, covers what to do when a stream won't play, when an addon goes sideways, or when your whole setup stops working.
