Comet Stremio addon: what it is and how to set it up
Comet is a free, open-source Stremio addon that finds torrent releases for whatever you open, and checks your debrid service for ones that play straight away. It describes itself as "Stremio's fastest torrent/debrid search add-on". It's written by g0ldy, on GitHub, and covers films, series and anime.
Comet can also return direct torrent streams on instances that allow them. ElfHosted's public instance returns debrid streams only, so there you need a debrid account. Comet itself doesn't host or download anything.
How to install Comet
- Open a Comet configure page. ElfHosted's public one is at
https://comet.elfhosted.com/configure. Others are listed in Comet and MediaFusion instances compared, ranked by uptime. - Choose your debrid service and paste its API key. You'll find the key in your account settings on the debrid service's website.
- Set filters if you want them: resolutions, languages, how many results to show. You can change these later.
- Choose Install. Stremio opens and asks you to confirm.
Then open any film or episode: Comet's results appear in the stream list.
Debrid services Comet supports
Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, Premiumize, TorBox, Debrid-Link, EasyDebrid, OffCloud, PikPak and Debrider, at the time of writing. New to debrid? Providers and bundles explains what one does, and what is TorBox? covers one option.
Where Comet fits
- On its own, Comet is a quick, simple way to get debrid streams into Stremio.
- Inside AIOStreams, it's one source among several, merged into one list. That's how most setups use it, and it keeps you well under rate limits.
- Alongside MediaFusion, which has more filtering and stronger non-English coverage. A gap in one is covered by the other.
Your own Comet
Public Comet instances are shared, so their limits are too. A private ElfHosted Comet is yours alone, with proxy streaming, so everyone at home can stream from one debrid account from different places, plus Debridge and bundled TorBox and Usenet accounts.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Comet Stremio addon?
Comet is a free, open-source Stremio addon that finds torrent releases for a film or episode and checks your debrid service for ones it can play straight away. It is written by g0ldy and runs on several public instances, ElfHosted's among them.
How do I install Comet in Stremio?
Open a Comet instance's configure page, for example https://comet.elfhosted.com/configure, choose your debrid service, paste its API key, set any filters, and choose Install. Stremio asks you to confirm.
Which debrid services does Comet support?
Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, Premiumize, TorBox, Debrid-Link, EasyDebrid, OffCloud, PikPak and Debrider, at the time of writing. The configure page lists the current set.
Is Comet free?
Yes. Comet is free software and the public instances are free to use. ElfHosted's public instance returns debrid streams only, so there you need a debrid account; instances that allow direct torrents can work without one. A private ElfHosted Comet costs $9 a month after a $1, 7-day trial, with Debridge and bundled TorBox and Usenet accounts included.
Comet vs Torrentio: which is better?
They do a similar job. Torrentio is one public service run by its developer. Comet runs on several public instances, so if one is down you can use another, and it can share one debrid account across several places through proxy streaming. Many people use both, often inside AIOStreams.
Comet vs MediaFusion: which should I use?
Comet is quick and simple. MediaFusion has more filtering and stronger coverage of non-English content. Plenty of setups use both. See Comet and MediaFusion instances compared.
Can I use Comet inside AIOStreams?
Yes. AIOStreams can query Comet alongside other addons and merge the results into one list, which also means one request per title against your rate limits.
Why does Comet return no results?
Usually the debrid key, or filters that are too narrow. Re-copy the key into the configure page and reinstall. If the instance itself is down, check is Comet down?
