AIOStreams setup guide

AIOStreams is a Stremio addon that asks several other addons for streams at once, then filters, sorts and formats everything into one list. Setting it up means telling it which service to stream through, which addons to ask, what to keep, and how each result should read. It takes about five minutes the first time, and none of it's permanent: most changes apply as soon as you save, with no reinstall.

This guide uses ElfHosted's free public instance, but every AIOStreams instance has the same configure page, so the steps work anywhere.

What do you need before you start?

  • A debrid service, or a Usenet service AIOStreams can stream through. AIOStreams finds streams, and a service plays them. Our public instance returns debrid and Usenet streams only. Providers and bundles explains the options.
  • A password you don't use anywhere else. AIOStreams encrypts your configuration with it, and there's no reset if you lose it.
  • Stremio or Nuvio installed. AIOStreams works in any app that uses Stremio addons. For Nuvio, see AIOStreams in Nuvio.

How do you set up AIOStreams, step by step?

1. Open the configure page

Go to aiostreams.elfhosted.com/stremio/configure. The page opens on About, with a Get started card.

Choose Start setup to build your own, or Browse setups to start from a ready-made one (see templates below). If you're new to AIOStreams, a ready-made setup is the shorter path, and you can still change every part of it.

2. Add your service

Open Services and switch on the debrid service you use, such as Real-Debrid, TorBox, AllDebrid or Premiumize, and paste in its API key. You can add more than one, and AIOStreams checks each for streams it can play.

Usenet works differently. On a public instance you can't enter a Usenet provider's login directly: AIOStreams streams Usenet through a service that does the downloading, such as TorBox (Usenet is on its Pro plan), Easynews, or an NzbDAV or AltMount instance of your own. Add that service here instead. AIOStreams' own Usenet service, which uses your provider's login, needs a login set up by whoever runs the instance, so it's for your own instance (see the Auth Token question).

3. Add a few addons

Open Addons, then Marketplace. These are the addons AIOStreams asks for results. Add two or three to begin with: more addons means slower results and more duplicates, not more choice.

Each addon has its own Timeout, in milliseconds. AIOStreams waits for every addon to answer or time out before showing anything, so one slow addon slows the whole list.

4. Set your filters

Open Filters. There are tabs for almost everything, from Resolution and Quality to Language, Size and Result Limits. Three are worth setting on day one:

  • Resolution. Put 2160p or 1080p at the top of Preferred Resolutions. Use Required Resolutions only if you want nothing else, because a title with no copy at that resolution will show no streams at all.
  • Language. Prefer your languages so they rank first.
  • Result Limits. A cap per resolution keeps the list short enough to read.

The Regex and Stream Expression tabs are for precise rules, and templates usually fill them in for you.

5. Pick a formatter

Open Formatter. A formatter decides what each stream says in your app's list: resolution, size, source, language, codec. Pick one now; you can swap it any time. See which formatter to use.

6. Save and install

Open Save & Install.

  1. Choose a password, confirm it, and select Create. You'll get a UUID. Keep the UUID and password somewhere safe: you need both to edit this configuration later.
  2. Choose Install to Stremio for the app, or Install to Stremio Web for the browser version.
  3. For any other app, use Copy install link and paste it into the app. That link is your manifest URL.

Open any film or episode in Stremio, and AIOStreams' results appear in the stream list.

What are AIOStreams templates?

A template is a shareable file that fills in a whole configuration for you, asking a few questions on the way, such as which services you use and which languages you prefer. Browse setups on the About page lists the ones available on your instance.

The best-known community templates are Tam-Taro's. They lean on SEL, AIOStreams' Stream Expression Language, for filtering and ranking rules more precise than the standard filters, which is why they're popular with people who don't want to write those rules themselves.

Templates keep a link to where they came from. When a template you've applied publishes a newer version, AIOStreams shows Template Updates Available, with a changelog, and you choose:

  • Apply Update runs the template's questions again with the new version. Settings the template covers are replaced, and the rest of your configuration is left alone. Nothing changes until you save on Save & Install.
  • Skip this version waits for the next one.
  • Ignore all future updates for this template stops asking.
  • Maybe later closes the pop-up.

Exporting a backup from Save & Install before you apply an update is a good habit.

Which AIOStreams formatter should you use?

There's no wrong answer. Pick the one you can read fastest on the screen you watch on.

Formatter What it looks like
Prism Every detail, fitted into five lines
Tamtaro Tam-Taro's layout, often paired with Tam-Taro's templates
Google Drive Copies the Stremio GDrive addon's layout
Light Google Drive A shorter version of the same
Minimalistic Only the bare minimum
Torrentio Copies Torrentio's layout, if you're used to it
Torbox Copies the TorBox Stremio addon's layout
Custom Write your own

On a TV, a shorter formatter is easier to scan from the sofa. On a phone or desktop, Prism shows the most without scrolling.

What makes a good AIOStreams setup?

We'd keep it small:

  • Two or three source addons, not ten. Each one adds time to every search, and most return the same releases.
  • One main service, with a second only if you have it anyway.
  • Preferred, not required, for resolution and language, so a title with no 4K copy still shows something.
  • A results cap, so the list fits on a screen.
  • A template, if you'd rather not tune filters at all.

The Interface switch on the About page hides the advanced options. Simple hides the Sorting page and the more advanced settings, which is where most people should start. Advanced shows everything.

How do you edit your AIOStreams configuration later?

Your configuration lives on the AIOStreams instance, not in Stremio. To change it:

  1. In Stremio, select Configure next to AIOStreams, or open the configure page yourself.
  2. Sign in with your configuration's UUID and Password. Coming from Stremio's Configure button, the UUID is already filled in.
  3. Make your changes, open Save & Install, and select Save.

Until you sign in, the configure page shows a fresh, empty configuration. Yours hasn't gone anywhere. The page doesn't know which one is yours until you sign in.

Most changes apply as soon as you save. AIOStreams tells you when a reinstall is needed, which is usually after renaming or reordering catalogues, or adding the first addon of a new kind. Reinstalling doesn't reset anything.

When should you move to your own instance?

A public instance is shared. Its rate limit, its addon limit and the features it offers are set for everyone on it. That's fine for most people. If you hit the limits, want Torrentio or search, or want a household on one setup, a private ElfHosted AIOStreams instance is yours alone, with ten times the public allowance, and it comes bundled with a provider or proxy if you want one. The configure page is identical, so this guide still applies. To compare running it yourself, see self-hosting AIOStreams vs ElfHosted.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set up AIOStreams?

Open an instance's configure page, such as aiostreams.elfhosted.com/stremio/configure. Start from a ready-made setup or build your own: add your service under Services, two or three addons from the Marketplace under Addons, a preferred resolution under Filters, and a formatter. Then choose a password and select Create on Save & Install, and install the addon.

What is the best AIOStreams setup?

A small one. Two or three good source addons, one service, preferred rather than required resolutions, and a cap on results per resolution beat a long list of addons on speed and readability. A template is the quickest way there.

Where is my AIOStreams manifest URL?

On Save & Install, once your configuration is created. Copy install link gives you the manifest URL, which contains your UUID and ends in manifest.json. Keep it private: anyone with it can use your setup.

How do I add AIOStreams to Stremio?

On Save & Install, choose Install to Stremio, or Install to Stremio Web for the browser. You can also paste the install link into Stremio's addon search box.

What is an AIOStreams template?

A shareable file that fills in a whole configuration, asking about your services and languages on the way. Tam-Taro's are the best-known, and they use SEL for filtering and ranking. AIOStreams offers updates when a template you've applied changes.

Which AIOStreams formatter should I use?

Whichever you can read at a glance. Prism fits every detail into five lines, Minimalistic shows the bare minimum, and Google Drive, Torrentio and Torbox copy those addons' look. Custom lets you write your own.

Do I need to reinstall after changing my configuration?

Usually not. Most changes apply when you save. AIOStreams tells you when a reinstall is needed, typically after renaming or reordering catalogues, or adding the first addon of a new kind.

I forgot my AIOStreams password. Can I reset it?

No. It's stored in a form that can't be read back. Your current install keeps working, but to edit it you'll need to build a new configuration, importing a backup if you have one, and install its new link.

What is the AIOStreams Auth Token?

The username:password pair that AIOStreams' own Usenet service asks for under Services. It has to match a login set in the instance's AIOSTREAMS_AUTH setting by whoever runs it. You don't need it on a public instance. On your own instance you set AIOSTREAMS_AUTH yourself and enter the same pair.
