AIOMetadata instances compared
Every public AIOMetadata instance runs the same open-source AIOMetadata, written by cedya77, so they all offer the same catalogues, artwork and ratings. They differ in uptime, who runs them, and which API keys they supply. The table ranks them all by uptime, measured by an independent monitor.

How to read it:
- Uptime comes from the IbbyLabs Uptime Tracker, which checks every instance on the same schedule. We don't run it. The table refreshes every time this site is rebuilt.
- Built-in keys are the API keys the instance supplies: TMDB and TVDB for metadata, Fanart.tv for logos and artwork. Where an instance supplies none, you create your own keys and paste them in before those sources work.
Which one should you use?
Metadata is on every screen in Stremio, so an instance that drops out leaves blank posters and empty rows. For trying AIOMetadata, pick one near the top of the table that supplies the keys you want. Many people use the same operator for AIOMetadata and AIOStreams, so one status page covers both.
Is AIOMetadata down?
Each instance runs separately, so one being down says nothing about the others. To check yours:
- Look at its status. ElfHosted's instances are on status.elfhosted.com. The IbbyLabs tracker shows every public instance at once.
- Open its manifest in a browser, for example
https://aiometadata.elfhosted.com/manifest.json. A page of text means the instance is up. - If it's up but posters or rows are missing, check the API keys in your configuration, or whether the source it relies on (TMDB, TVDB, Trakt) is having problems of its own.
Why your own instance
On a public instance the cache is shared with everyone else, so your catalogues load on everyone's schedule. A private ElfHosted AIOMetadata instance is yours alone:
- It warms your catalogues and caches your posters, so rows load quickly.
- Trakt search, which our public instance doesn't offer.
- AI Search, with the provider included.
- A virtual Jellyfin server, so your catalogues show up in Jellyfin apps too.

Why Jellyfin is off on our public AIOMetadata
The virtual Jellyfin server shows your Stremio catalogues in any Jellyfin app, on a TV, phone or tablet. Any Jellyfin app can sign in to it, from anywhere, as any number of users. In a household that is useful. On a free public instance it is what a reseller needs: one free setup, sold to dozens of people as a paid "shared server", with the load landing on a service other people rely on.
So the virtual Jellyfin server is off on our public AIOMetadata, and everything else works as normal. Our public AIOStreams leaves out its Jellyfin integration for the same reason. Other public-instance messages are covered in ElfHosted public addon messages, explained.
Public, private or self-hosted
| Public instance | Private ElfHosted instance | Self-hosted | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When something breaks | Community help: subreddits and volunteer-run Discord servers, each with its own rules, and answers depend on who is around | Our support team, plus Sam, an assistant in your dashboard that looks at your actual apps and fixes things once you confirm | You, a search engine, and the same community channels |
| Guides | Whatever the community has written | Our docs for every app, written for your setup | The project's own docs |
| Limits | Shared with everyone on the instance | Your own | Your own hardware's |
| Addons and features | The operator's choice | Your choice, Torrentio included | Your choice |
| Updates and uptime | The operator's | Ours | Yours |
| Cost | Free | From $9 a month, after a $1, 7-day trial | A server, and your evenings |
A public instance is a good way to try an addon, and self-hosting suits people who like running servers. A private instance is for when the whole household relies on it and you want someone to call when it breaks.
Frequently asked questions
Which AIOMetadata instance is the best?
They all run the same AIOMetadata, so the differences are uptime, who runs the instance and which API keys it supplies. The table above ranks every trusted public instance by uptime, measured independently, and the Built-in keys column shows which ones work without keys of your own. For your own cache, Trakt search and AI Search, a private ElfHosted instance is the step up.
Do I need my own TMDB or TVDB API key for AIOMetadata?
Only on an instance that doesn't supply them. Check the Built-in keys column in the table: where it says TMDB and TVDB, those sources work straight away. Where it says "None, bring your own", create the keys on TMDB's and TVDB's own sites and paste them into the configuration page.
Is AIOMetadata free?
Yes. AIOMetadata is free, open-source software, and every public instance on this page is free to use. It doesn't need a debrid service, because it supplies catalogues and artwork rather than streams. A private ElfHosted AIOMetadata instance costs $9 a month after a $1, 7-day trial.
What's the difference between AIOMetadata and AIOStreams?
AIOMetadata supplies what you browse: catalogues, posters, descriptions, ratings and episode lists. AIOStreams finds the streams when you press play, by asking several addons at once. Most setups use one of each. See AIOStreams instances compared.
Does AIOMetadata replace Cinemeta?
It can. Cinemeta is the metadata addon built into Stremio. Many people use AIOMetadata in its place, for richer catalogues, more artwork sources and ratings from several sites.
What is AIOMetadata Midnight?
Midnight is MidnightIgnite's public AIOMetadata instance, at aiometadatafortheweebs.midnightignite.me. Its uptime is in the table above.
Does AIOMetadata work with Jellyfin?
Yes, through its virtual Jellyfin server, which shows your Stremio catalogues in Jellyfin apps. It is switched off on ElfHosted's public instance, for the reason explained below, and included on a private instance.
