How to switch apps on and off
Every ElfHosted account has an Apps page. Use it to switch on extra apps your plan includes, switch off apps you don't use, and, on a Flex plan, choose which apps from the Flex collection are running.
Where to find it
Open My Account on the store and click Apps in the menu (it sits right after Orders). The direct link is store.elfhosted.com/my-account/apps/.
At the top of the page there's an Open your apps dashboard button, which takes you to your running apps.
Some plans include apps that most people rarely use. These are switched off by default, so they don't run until you want them. To use one:
- Open Apps
- Tick the app you want
- Click Save changes
The Your apps section lists the other apps on your plan. Untick anything you don't use and save: it stops running, none of its data is deleted, and you can switch it back on at any time. Apps you've switched off are listed under Switched off.
Some apps can't be switched off. They show a greyed-out, ticked box, with a tooltip explaining that they're included with your plan.
Flex plans
If you're on a Flex plan, the page has an extra section headed with your plan name (Flex, Flex Plus or Flex Pro). Flex, Flex Plus and Flex Pro run up to 4, 10 and 18 apps at once, picked from the Flex collection. A new Flex plan starts with nothing running, so your first job is picking your apps.
The section starts with a counter, for example 3 of 4 running. Running apps and apps you haven't picked yet are listed together in this one section.
To change which apps run:
- Open Apps
- In the Flex section, tick the apps you want running and untick the ones you don't
- Click Save changes
The whole page is saved in one go when you click Save changes, not one tick at a time, so make all your changes first.
What swapping apps does
- Your data is kept. Switching an app off stops it running but deletes none of its data. Switch it back on later and it picks up where it left off.
- Your bill doesn't change. Swapping apps is included in your plan.
- Switching one off frees its slot for another app, straight away.
If you pick too many
If your changes would run more apps than your plan includes, the save is refused and nothing is changed. Untick something, or move to a bigger plan (see switch your subscription).
If you've moved to a smaller plan and are now over its limit, nothing is switched off for you, but you'll need to switch apps off until you're under the limit before you can switch any more on.
After you save
A message at the top of the page confirms what happened:
- Saved. Apps you switched on start shortly; give them a few minutes to appear in your dashboard.
- Nothing to save, if you didn't change anything.
- Couldn't reach your account state, if something went wrong on our side. Nothing was changed, so try again.
You'll also get an email titled "Your ElfHosted apps have changed", listing what was switched on and off, with a link back to the Apps page.
Frequently asked questions
Does switching an app off delete it?
No. It stops running, and its data stays where it is. Switch it back on at any time.
Does swapping Flex apps cost anything?
No. Swapping apps doesn't change your bill. To run more apps at once, move to a bigger Flex plan.
I switched an app on and it isn't there yet
Give it a few minutes. If it still hasn't appeared, ask in Discord (#elf-help) with your order number.
