Stremio addons in Jellyfin

Short answer: yes, and the quickest way today is JellyStreams. It serves your Stremio addon results over the Jellyfin protocol, so Infuse, Swiftfin, Strand, Fusion and the official Jellyfin apps browse and play them like any other Jellyfin library. No plugin to install, no Jellyfin server to run, no sideloading.

There are three ways to do Stremio Jellyfin integration, and they differ in shape: a Jellyfin Stremio plugin inside a real server (Gelato), a Jellyfin-compatible server of its own (JellyStreams, Remux), or one of the DIY community forks. This page covers all of them and says which to pick.

Why is everyone suddenly trying to do this?

Two reasons. One is about reach, and one is about staying installed.

Stremio ships native apps for Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung Tizen (2019+ models) and LG webOS (2020+ models). It does not ship an App Store build for Apple TV or iOS, so the official route there is an IPA you sideload yourself, which wants a Mac, a signing certificate, and a reinstall every time the signature lapses. Roku has no Stremio app at all and no plans for one. Older TVs below those model-year cutoffs are out, and the LG listing is not carried in every region.

Jellyfin clients exist for every one of those platforms, and each installs from its own app store.

The reason it became urgent

An app that carries Stremio addon support inside the app is exposed to App Store review in a way a generic media player is not. The precedent everyone points at is Stremio Lite, which reached the tvOS App Store in October 2025 and was pulled in January 2026; Stremio's own February 2026 post says they are still waiting to hear whether it can return. Third-party apps that speak the addon protocol directly do exist and work well, but none of them controls whether it stays listed.

A Jellyfin client contains no addon code at all. It is a media player that connects to a server, the same as it would to anyone's Jellyfin server, and the addon resolution happens server-side. That difference is why interest moved this way, and why the pairing of "any Jellyfin app" with "a backend that speaks Stremio addons" has become the recommended shape rather than a curiosity.

So the trick is to stop putting the addons in the app, and put them on a server that speaks Jellyfin. That is the whole idea, and it is why forks and side projects implementing it keep appearing.

What are the options in 2026?

Why JellyStreams rather than the others?

It is the only one you cannot get anywhere else. Remux and Gelato are open-source projects you could run on a spare machine, and the DIY forks are exactly that. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise. JellyStreams we build, and it runs here or nowhere.

It is on the durable side of the app-store line. Your player stays a plain Jellyfin client with no addon code in it, so it is not in the category that gets pulled. The part that knows about addons is the server, and it is our problem to keep running rather than yours to keep installed.

Nothing to assemble. The others all assume you have already solved the hard part: an addon manager, a debrid account, somewhere for Usenet to come from, metadata that isn't threadbare. JellyStreams arrives with all of it wired together, because it comes in a bundle that contains all of it.

It knows what a household is. This is the part no Stremio addon can ever do, and it is worth understanding why rather than taking it on trust. Stremio has no concept of a user, so there is nowhere in the addon protocol for a second person's watch history, a child's content limit, or a daily cap to live. Any solution built purely as an addon inherits that gap permanently. JellyStreams sits beside your addons rather than inside them, so it can hold profiles, per-profile libraries, screen time and playback notices.

The heavier options may be more than you need. Remux and the more ambitious forks bring local files, WebDAV, music pipelines and dynamic library rules. If you want those, they are the right answer and we sell Remux for exactly that. If what you actually want is "my addons, on the Apple TV, with the kids kept to their own shelf", that machinery is weight you carry without using.

What does the household layer actually give me?

• A profile per person, each a real Jellyfin user with its own watch history and continue-watching row
• Kids' libraries filtered by certification, using AIOMetadata's own rules, including a cap that can only be tightened
• Daily screen-time caps per profile, with a warning before they land
• Push notifications when somebody starts watching, on your phone, through Sam
• Tap-your-own-face sign-in: signing in once enrols the device, and after that each person opens their profile with a tap rather than typing a password on a TV remote

Two honest caveats, because you would find them out anyway. Screen time stops the next thing, not the current one: playback is a redirect and the video never passes through us, so a capped profile cannot start anything new while whatever is playing finishes. And device enrolment is friction rather than a vault: it means an outsider needs your hostname and an enrolled device, while your family needs neither.

Can I just use AIOStreams' own Jellyfin support?

Not yet. AIOStreams is building it and it is not available. When it lands it will be limited by design: a protocol surface over a single account, for the reason above. It has nowhere to keep a second person's watch state.

So it will be a fine way for one person to get their addons onto a TV, and it will never be the household answer. If profiles, kids' libraries or screen time are why you are reading this, that gap is permanent rather than a matter of waiting.

Should I run one of the DIY projects myself?

You can, and if you enjoy that sort of thing there is nothing wrong with it. The usual recipe is to claim a free cloud VM, install Docker, run an addon server on it, open a port, and point your apps at it.

What you are signing up for is a machine you now own: SSH keys, firewall rules, container updates, certificate renewal, and a free tier that will reclaim an idle instance without asking. You are also signing up for a young project, since most of these implementations are weeks or months old and the Jellyfin protocol has a great many corners that only reveal themselves against real clients.

Here, the server already exists, with a hostname, a certificate, and updates handled. The same reasoning applies to running the addon itself, covered in self-host AIOStreams on a VPS or Oracle Free Tier vs ElfHosted.

When is Remux the better answer?

When your content does not all come from addons. Remux reads WebDAV shares and your own files alongside several Stremio addons at once, has a music pipeline of its own, and builds libraries from filter rules over tags, catalogs, popularity and release year. It can import users from an existing Jellyfin server too.

What it does not have is screen time or push notifications. So the choice is breadth of sources against depth of household controls.

What about the Gelato Jellyfin Stremio plugin?

Gelato is the best-known Jellyfin Stremio plugin: it lives inside a real Jellyfin server, replaces Jellyfin's search with Stremio addon results, and can import catalogs as libraries. It only works with AIOStreams as its backend, which is worth knowing before you plan around it.

Where a real Jellyfin server still wins is the things only Jellyfin itself has: Jellyseerr, a library of your own files beside the virtual one, the whole plugin ecosystem, and hardware transcoding. That is JellyGoblin, and it is the only option here that transcodes.

Remux vs Gelato vs JellyStreams: which should I use?

Quickest way to decide:

• Just want your addons on the TV, for the family? JellyStreams.
• Have WebDAV shares, local files or a music collection to fold in? Remux.
• Need hardware transcoding, Jellyseerr and the Jellyfin plugin ecosystem? Jellyfin with Gelato, accepting the version pin above.
• Enjoy running your own server and don't mind a young project? One of the DIY forks.

Does this work on Roku, Samsung, LG or Fire TV?

Yes, on all of them, because they all have Jellyfin clients.

Stremio on Roku is the clearest case after Apple TV: Roku has no Stremio app at all and Stremio has said it has no plans for one, since the platform is closed. A Jellyfin client on Roku pointed at JellyStreams is the way in.

Stremio on LG and Samsung smart TVs is a more honest picture. Stremio does ship native apps for Samsung Tizen (2019+ models) and LG webOS (2020+ models), so if your set is newer than that and the app is carried in your region, you already have an option. Use a Jellyfin client instead when your TV predates those cutoffs, when the listing is not available where you are, or when you would simply rather have one library app across every screen in the house, with the same profiles and watch state on each.

Stremio on Fire TV and Android TV works natively too, so the same reasoning applies.

Stremio on Apple TV is the one where there is no native option at all, and it has its own page.

Which Jellyfin apps can I use?

Built and tested against Odin (Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac), Infuse (Apple TV, iOS, iPadOS, macOS), Swiftfin (Apple TV, iOS), Strand, Fusion, Moonfin, and the official Jellyfin apps on Android, Android TV, Fire TV and web.

Odin, Strand, Swiftfin, Moonfin and the official Android TV app are the ones we actively tune against, because Jellyfin clients disagree with each other over which fields they need and when. That is unglamorous work and it is most of the difference between a library that loads and a library that behaves.

Other Jellyfin clients generally work, since this is the native Jellyfin protocol rather than a bespoke scheme. Not every client in the wild has been tested.

Does it transcode?

No, and neither does Remux. Both hand your player a URL that points at the source, so the bytes go straight there and nothing passes through a re-encoder. That is why playback starts fast and why neither needs a GPU.

The trade is that your player must decode the format natively. Native TV and mobile apps direct play almost everything, HEVC and 4K included. Browsers are fussy, so pick an AVC/H.264 release when watching in one. If you genuinely need transcoding, that is the Gelato path on a Hobbit tier or above.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use a Stremio addon in Jellyfin? Yes. JellyStreams serves your addon library over the Jellyfin protocol, so any Jellyfin client can browse and play it. One addon or twenty, it is whatever your AIOStreams configuration resolves. The Gelato plugin does it from inside a real Jellyfin server, and Remux does it as a Jellyfin-compatible server of its own.

Do I need to install a plugin in Jellyfin? Not with JellyStreams or Remux. Both answer the Jellyfin API themselves, so you add them as a server in your client and sign in. Only the Gelato route involves a plugin.

Does this work on Apple TV without sideloading? Yes. Install Infuse or Swiftfin from the App Store and point either at your server. See Stremio on Apple TV.

Can my family have separate profiles? With JellyStreams, yes, each a real Jellyfin user with its own watch history. Remux and a full Jellyfin server also do users. A plain Stremio addon cannot, ever.

Is JellyStreams open source, or can I run it myself? No. We build it and it runs on ElfHosted only, as part of the AIOMagic Bundle. Remux and Gelato are open source if running it yourself is what you want.

Do I need my own debrid or Usenet account? Not with AIOMagic, which includes both. You can add your own provider keys as well if you prefer.

Is there a Jellyfin Stremio addon or plugin? Yes, Gelato, which runs inside a real Jellyfin server and uses AIOStreams as its backend. Note the direction: it puts Stremio content into Jellyfin. Projects like Jellio and stremio-jellyfin go the other way, exposing a Jellyfin library inside Stremio, which is a different job. It is pinned to Jellyfin 10.11, so a server upgrade can leave you without it. JellyStreams is a server rather than a plugin, so it has no version to match.

Can Infuse play Stremio addon content? Yes. Point Infuse at JellyStreams as a Jellyfin server and it browses and plays your addon library, including the version picker for choosing a release.

Do Swiftfin, Strand and Odin work too? Yes, all three, along with Fusion, Moonfin and the official Jellyfin apps on Android, Android TV, Fire TV and web. Odin, Strand, Swiftfin, Moonfin and the official Android TV app are the ones we specifically tune against.

Can I watch Stremio on Roku? Not with a Stremio app, since Roku has none. Install a Jellyfin client on the Roku and point it at JellyStreams.

I’ve been using this service for a while now, and honestly, it’s a game-changer compared to anything else I’ve tried for managing my media library. (responding to a discussion re the cost of ElfHosted vs mainstream streaming / self-hosting):

I didn't know that the goal of this project was to compete with large companies running/renting entire DCs. I was under the impression that the goal of this project was to manage the updating of almost selfhosted applications on a shared platform with other users. Basically, be my sysadmin for me.

That being said, paying for services is the 'easy button'. There is a real world cost incurred for the time saved. Time is money. Time is the most valuable currency that exists. Once time is spent, it's forever lost, one cannot retrieve it again (yet). In my mind, there are 3 options for use of time with respect to: mainstream, selfhosting, elfhosted.

• mainstream - my time is valuable and I don't want curated content and I don't care what content that I have the ability to consume. I only like what's popular.

• elfhosted - my time is valuable, I want my own curated content without being forced to browse past the same damn entry 500 times just to find out that I can't watch the movie I want because it's not available in my current location or was removed last week from mainstream providers.

• selfhost - I care about costs and I have nothing but time to waste or I want to learn about the backend of the systems involved. I'll pay for my own VPS/homelab, electricity, manage the OS, manage app updates, figure out how to make the apps talk nice to each other, create my own beautiful frontend.

I know how much my time is worth, does that reddit poster know how much their time is worth? Without knowing what you are worth, you can't make effective capital expenditures with respect to the time it will take to recoup the capital.

I know I don't need elfhosted at all for my use case. I choose to stay with elfhosted because it's my 'easy button'. It's an efficient capital expense for the amount of time it saves me managing my own hardware, apps and saves me electricity costs. I'm also in a situation where I don't have upload bandwidth from my home to serve HD content to myself remotely. If I lived back in a city, I would still be here. My time is worth $$/hr.
