Mixtape Bundle

The Mixtape Bundle is a music collection in one subscription. Navidrome plays it, in the browser and in any Subsonic app on iOS and Android. Lidarr follows the artists you care about and files their albums into a clean folder structure. DroppedNeedle is the request desk: search the MusicBrainz catalogue, ask for one specific record, and it tags and imports it. Digarr looks at what you actually listen to and suggests what to add next, with the AI included in your plan.

All the apps see the same storage at the same paths, so one music folder serves every one of them: what Lidarr or DroppedNeedle files is what Navidrome plays.

When does the Mixtape Bundle make sense?

  • Your music is a folder of files (ripped CDs, purchased downloads, your own recordings) and you want it on your phone everywhere without syncing.
  • You want albums filed and tagged properly, the same way every time.
  • You want discovery based on your own listening, with you approving each suggestion rather than an algorithm filling a playlist.
  • You don't want to leave a machine running at home so your phone can play an album.

What's in it?

App Its job in the bundle Sign-in
Navidrome The player: web UI, plus the Subsonic API that music apps on every platform speak Its own accounts
Lidarr Follows artists, files and tags their albums, upgrades quality over time Your ElfHosted login
DroppedNeedle Search MusicBrainz, request a record, tag and import it; also scrobbles to ListenBrainz and Last.fm Its own accounts
Digarr Builds a taste profile from your listening and suggests artists and albums into a review queue Your ElfHosted login
Prowlarr Keeps your indexer list in one place and hands it to Lidarr Your ElfHosted login
SABnzbd Usenet download client for Lidarr and DroppedNeedle, with par2 repair Your ElfHosted login

Navidrome and DroppedNeedle run their own logins so that music apps, and the people you share with, can reach them directly.

How the apps fit together

Every app mounts your own cloud storage at /storage/rclone/<mount>/ (attached with magic mounting) and the bundle's working space at /storage/symlinks/. The setup that keeps everything in agreement is one music folder, which every app is pointed at:

flowchart LR
  D[Digarr] -- approvals --> L[Lidarr]
  L --> M["/storage/rclone/your-mount/music"]
  DN[DroppedNeedle] --> M
  M --> N[Navidrome]
  N --> P[Subsonic apps and browser]
  N -- what you play --> D

Lidarr is the standing order (follow an artist and new albums turn up), DroppedNeedle is the one-off request, Navidrome plays the result, and Digarr closes the loop by reading what you play in Navidrome and proposing what to add.

How do I use it?

1. Attach your storage and pick the music folder

Set up a magic mount for your cloud storage and create a music folder on it. If you already have music, put it there. The folder must be writable, because Lidarr and DroppedNeedle file into it.

2. Point Navidrome at it

Navidrome doesn't know where your music is until you tell it. Set ND_MUSICFOLDER with ElfBot:

Quick-paste into Navidrome's environment variables using ElfBot
ND_MUSICFOLDER=/storage/rclone/<your mount>/music

Then open Navidrome and create your admin account on the first visit. Navidrome is not behind your ElfHosted login, so do this as soon as your bundle is ready. Add accounts for the rest of the household from Navidrome's user settings, and use your Navidrome address in any Subsonic app.

3. Claim DroppedNeedle and set its library

DroppedNeedle also runs its own logins: create the admin account as soon as your bundle is ready. If someone beats you to it, ask ElfBot to reset the app and claim it again. Then set the library path under Settings โ†’ Library to the same /storage/rclone/<mount>/music. See the DroppedNeedle page for playback sources and scrobbling.

4. Set Lidarr's root folder

In Lidarr, add /storage/rclone/<mount>/music as a root folder under Settings โ†’ Media Management, then add the artists you follow. Lidarr matches against MusicBrainz and files albums in a structure Navidrome reads as it is.

5. Connect Digarr

Digarr's setup wizard pre-selects ElfHosted (included) as its AI provider, so there is no API key to find. Create your admin account, then under Settings โ†’ Connections:

  • Lidarr: http://lidarr:8686, with the API key from Lidarr's Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Security. Albums you approve go to Lidarr.
  • Navidrome: http://navidrome:4533, with your Navidrome username and password, so Digarr learns from what you play.

Last.fm, ListenBrainz and others can be added too; see the Digarr page.

What it doesn't do

  • No music is included. We host the apps, not the records. Bring music you own: ripped discs, purchases, Creative Commons and public domain releases.
  • Storage is yours to attach with magic mounting. Your collection stays yours if you ever leave.
  • No Usenet provider or debrid account is included in the bundle price.
  • Not one login for everything. Navidrome and DroppedNeedle keep their own accounts.
  • The included AI is for everyday discovery. For heavier use, add your own AI provider in Digarr's settings, billed by that provider.

How do I get support?

  1. Each app's own page (linked above) covers it in more detail, along with its upstream project's documentation.
  2. For your ElfHosted setup, see the ElfHosted support options.
