eBookWorm Bundle

The eBookWorm Bundle is an ebook library in one subscription. Three reading apps cover different habits: Grimmory for a polished library with smart shelves and a browser reader, Calibre-Web (we run the Calibre-Web-Automated fork) for a Calibre library that imports and converts whatever you drop in, and BookOrbit for progress and highlights synced to Kobo and KOReader. Chaptarr follows the authors you care about, and Shelfmark searches the providers you configure and saves straight into a reader's import folder.

All the apps run side by side on shared storage, and the bundle mounts the readers' import folders into Shelfmark, so a book found there lands in the reader you chose without you moving files around.

When does the eBookWorm Bundle make sense?

  • Your ebooks are scattered across downloads folders, email attachments and old laptops, and you want one library with covers and metadata.
  • You read on a Kindle, Kobo or KOReader device and want books sent to it, or progress synced back.
  • You share books with the household, each person with their own account and reading progress.
  • You want new books from your favourite authors noticed for you.

If you also listen to audiobooks, the StoryBookWorm Bundle adds Audiobookshelf and read-along books; the SuperBookWorm Bundle adds comics too.

What's in it?

App Its job in the bundle Sign-in
Grimmory Ebook, PDF and comic library: smart shelves, browser reader, OPDS, Kobo and KOReader sync, send to Kindle Its own accounts
Calibre-Web A Calibre library in the browser: drop a book in its ingest folder and it is imported (and converted, if you ask) ElfHosted login, then its own accounts
BookOrbit Reader for ebooks, PDFs, comics and audiobooks, with three-way sync between browser, Kobo and KOReader Its own accounts
Chaptarr Collection manager: follows authors, keeps editions side by side, files books into a folder the readers can serve Your ElfHosted login
Shelfmark One search across the providers you configure, saving into a reader's import folder Your ElfHosted login

The readers use their own accounts so that e-readers, OPDS apps and the people you share with can reach them directly. The management tools sit behind your ElfHosted login.

How the apps fit together

Every app mounts the same storage: your own cloud storage at /storage/rclone/<mount>/ (attached with magic mounting) and the bundle's working space at /storage/symlinks/. On top of that, the bundle wires each reader's import folder into Shelfmark:

Shelfmark save path Where it really is What happens next
/cwa-book-ingest/ Calibre-Web's ingest folder Calibre-Web imports the book (converting it if your settings say so) and deletes it from the ingest folder
/bookorbit-bookdock BookOrbit's Book Dock The book waits in BookOrbit's Book Dock screen for you to confirm the match and file it
/storage/rclone/<mount>/books Your own storage Any reader with a library on that folder picks it up at its next scan

Grimmory has its own BookDrop folder, but it isn't one of the folders mounted into Shelfmark. To feed Grimmory, point a Grimmory library at a folder on your storage and save books there.

How do I use it?

1. Claim the readers, and change Calibre-Web's password

Grimmory and BookOrbit are not behind your ElfHosted login, and Calibre-Web has its own admin account inside it, so set them up as soon as your bundle is ready:

  • Calibre-Web is behind your ElfHosted login, and starts with Calibre-Web's factory admin account. Sign in and change its password straight away, from your profile (click admin at the top of the page): e-reader apps that connect directly refuse the factory password.
  • Grimmory asks you to create an account on the first visit, then to create a library pointing at a folder under /storage.
  • BookOrbit sends you through a setup page that only you can open while signed in to ElfHosted; see the BookOrbit page.

2. Pick one shared books folder

Attach your cloud storage with magic mounting and create a books folder on it. Point a Grimmory library at /storage/rclone/<mount>/books, and a BookOrbit library too if you use it.

3. Point Chaptarr and Shelfmark at it

  • Chaptarr arrives with an eBooks root folder at /storage/symlinks/books. Either point your readers' libraries at that folder as well, or add a root folder on your own storage (/storage/rclone/<mount>/books) and use that. The Chaptarr page explains the difference.
  • Shelfmark saves to its own folder until you change it. Choose /cwa-book-ingest/ to feed Calibre-Web, /bookorbit-bookdock to feed BookOrbit, or your books folder to feed Grimmory. See the Shelfmark page.

4. Send books to your e-reader

Calibre-Web can email books to a Kindle (once you give it an outgoing mail server) and sync with a Kobo, Grimmory can send to Kindle and sync with Kobo and KOReader, and BookOrbit syncs progress and highlights with Kobo and KOReader. Each app's page covers its own setup.

How do I access it?

Everything is on your dashboard at https://your-username.elfhosted.com. Directly:

Signed-in users see their own URLs

The addresses above show the general pattern. Sign in and these become your personal, clickable links.

What it doesn't do

  • No books are included. Bring your own, or connect providers and accounts of your own.
  • Storage is yours to attach for a library of any size, using magic mounting.
  • The readers keep separate libraries. Grimmory, Calibre-Web and BookOrbit each keep their own database. Pointing two of them at the same folder is fine, but reading progress and shelves don't move between them (BookOrbit can import from Grimmory and Calibre-Web if you switch).
  • Not one login for everything. The readers have their own accounts so devices and family members can reach them.

How do I get support?

  1. Each app's own page (linked above) covers it in more detail, along with its upstream project's documentation.
  2. For your ElfHosted setup, see the ElfHosted support options.
